Our molded Delrin mountain dulcimer bridge/nut pieces are black colored and fit our pre-slotted fingerboards, or any fingerboard with 1/8" wide bridge/nut slots. The grooves molded into the top edge of our bridge/nut pieces are appropriate for both three and four-string dulcimers. These bridge/nut pieces are 1/8" thick, 3/8" high and 1 3/8" wide. The second photo above (with three blue diagrams) shows some of the different ways that you can set up our Delrin nut and bridge pieces. In our diagrams, the small circles above the string slots represent the strings.

This #49 drill bit is the perfect size for our anchor pins - loose enough that you can tap the pins into place, but they won't fall out once they're installed. This drill bit is.0730 inches in diameter. We use this size bit in the Folkcraft shop when installing anchor pins on our mountain dulcimers. These chrome strap buttons are to be added to an instrument so a strap can be attached to your dulcimer. Using a strap (available here ) allows you to securely hold the dulcimer at the optimal position on your lap, while keeping the instrument safe from sliding off your lap and landing on the floor. This is a 9/16 - 12 tap. You'll use it to pre-thread a 1/2" hole when installing our threaded end pin jack. When we install our threaded end pin jacks in a finished dulcimer, we first drill a 1/2" diameter hole into the heel of the instrument, then we use this tap to add threads to the hole we just drilled. We can then screw in the threaded end pin jack. This allow us to solder the wire connections (for a pickup, generally) outside the dulcimer, then screw the endpin jack into the body for a solid, neat, and secure connection.

These open-gear tuners have a 14:1 gearing ratio and a small chrome button. The post is just a hair over 1" long, and has a diameter of.236", which means it fits perfectly in a 1/4" hole. The post has two holes in it. The first hole is approximately 1/2" from the inside of the plate, and the second hole is approximately 7/8" from the inside of the plate. The machine heads can be used for either vertical (with a scroll head) or horizontal (with a flat head) mounting. At Folkcraft Instruments, this open gear chrome button machine head is our preferred choice for the instruments we build with scroll heads. We generally do not use the bushings that are included with these dulcimer tuning gears.

Our easy-to-assemble kit for making your own hammered dulcimer hammers will save you a ton of money, and only take an afternoon to assemble. We've taken 1/8” thick blanks of Honduras mahogany, laser-cut them to size/shape, and we're leaving the assembly (a spot of glue) and sanding (start with 120 grit sandpaper, finish with 220 grit paper) to you. In our hammered dulcimer kits for sale, your hammers are sanded to your satisfaction (Honduras mahogany is very soft, and will sand very, very easily!). Afterwards, you can add a finish (we would recommend a polyurethane, or a Danish oil) or leave the wood bare. Cut the leather pads to length, glue them on (we would use Duco Cement) and then make some music. Our hammered dulcimer hammers kit includes four shafts, eight caps, and a piece of leather long enough for four completed hammers.

This case will NOT fit a full-size dulcimer. Please measure your instrument carefully, and then decide if this case will fit your instrument. Our small-size dulcimer carrying bag is made of heavyweight black fabric. It features a soft fabric interior (with super-heavy Cordura nylon on one side of the inside, so your tuning pins won't poke through the padding), a generous exterior pocket, and a shoulder strap. As an added bonus, our case even includes the classic "FolkRoots Dulcimers" logo embroidered on the outside pocket. This case (gig bag) is 31" long and 12 1/2" wide, and will fit instruments up to 28" long, 8" wide, and 3" deep (including the fretboard and machine heads).
