These copper-plated dulcimer string anchor pins (string posts) hold the strings for a dulcimer in place. These dulcimer anchor pins are sized to perfectly fit the inside of a ball-end string. Our anchor pins are 1" long, and even though they have a tapered point on one end, we strongly recommend drilling a pilot hole in the wood. We use of a #49 (size) drill bill for making the holes that will accommodate these anchor pins. Here's a link to the drill bit we use here at the Folkcraft shop. These black strap buttons are to be added to an instrument so a strap can be attached to your dulcimer. Using a strap (available here ) allows you to securely hold the dulcimer at the optimal position on your lap, while keeping the instrument safe from sliding off your lap and landing on the floor. Our molded Delrin mountain dulcimer bridge/nut pieces are black colored and fit our pre-slotted fingerboards, or any fingerboard with 1/8" wide bridge/nut slots. The grooves molded into the top edge of our bridge/nut pieces are appropriate for both three and four-string dulcimers. These bridge/nut pieces are 1/8" thick, 3/8" high and 1 1/2" wide. The second photo above (with three blue diagrams) shows some of the different ways that you can set up our Delrin nut and bridge pieces. In our diagrams, the small circles above the string slots represent the strings.

Design your own musical instrument! If you haven't yet heard a Folkcraft LAP-JO, here's the lowdown: A Folkcraft LAP-JO is a dulcimer/banjo hybrid. The fretboard is 100 percent mountain dulcimer, and the instrument is played just like a standard dulcimer. The tone-generating end of the instrument is 100 percent banjo. Banjo rim, hoop, ring, lugs, tailpiece, bridge. This is the only dulcimer/banjo hybrid that actually sounds like a banjo. It can be played quietly, but is also loud enough to hold its own with a guitar, or with a hammered dulcimer. There are plenty of videos on YouTube where you can see a Folkcraft LAP-JO in action. We'll provide you with two pieces of Micarta (our preferred material for nuts and bridges). Each piece is quite a bit larger than you'll probably need (which means these parts can be made to fit practically any mountain dulcimer). This case will NOT fit a full-size dulcimer. Please measure your instrument carefully, and then decide if this case will fit your instrument. Our small-size dulcimer carrying bag is made of heavyweight black fabric. It features a soft fabric interior (with super-heavy Cordura nylon on one side of the inside, so your tuning pins won't poke through the padding), a generous exterior pocket, and a shoulder strap. They're finally here - our ball end string set with the middle and bass strings utilizing the best roller wound (RW) strings available. Roller wound strings squeak less than regular strings, of course (since they're flattened a bit with rollers), but more importantly for this string set, they're made of a brass alloy (instead of the more commonly-found bronze alloy). Strings in this set: Melody string:.016 Middle string:.026RW Bass string:.034RW Bronze tends to give a warmer tone quality, but brass, especially with baritone and bass strings, tends to provide the player with a LOT more clarity. The instrument isn't as "muddy", which is a common problem for baritone and bass dulcimers. Available only in ball end, and only in 3-string sets (going for that clarity again!), this is the string set we're using on the Folkcraft-built baritone dulcimers.
