The ultimate set of dulcimer strings. This is the string set we've been installing on new Folkcrafts since 2012. (It is also the set that Folkcraft owner Richard Ash has on his personal dulcimer!) The brass winding has been flattened with rollers, creating a warm sound with very little string squeak.

Our acetal copolymer white Delrin rod can be used on the bridges of your hammered dulcimer. Different uses can help you control the sustain of your instrument. Rods are sold in 23 1/2" long pieces. On a typical hammered dulcimer, Delrin rod used in two places: the nuts, on the outside of your hammered dulcimer, next to the tuning pins; and the bridges, closer to the center of your instrument. The nut pieces are usually a single piece, between 13 and 23 inches long. Our 1/8" diameter Delrin rod for hammered dulcimers is easy to cut to length - a sturdy pair of scissors (sharp desk shears, or kitchen shears) works well, or you can use a pair of wire cutters.

Our stylish 2" wide nylon straps are a full 55" long when fully extended. They are designed to securely hold your instrument while you're making music. We've installed a quick release buckle at both ends of the strap, so you can leave the leather tabs installed on your instrument, even when it is in your case. These straps are handmade in the USA, with a durable non-stretch webbing (strap material), heavyweight leather tabs (for long life without distorting from use, and the best plastic quick-release buckles on the market. If you have ever wondered how to build your own mountain dulcimer, then you need our building plans for a traditional hourglass-shaped mountain dulcimer. Our full scale pattern shows you the exact dimensions and shapes for the fingerboard, soundboard (top), braces, back, tail block, fingerboard, fret spacing (this plan shows a 27" VSL), bridges, string spacing and so much more. Suggested wood types are also provided. This hourglass dulcimer plan will get you past the hard part of building an instrument, and right into the fun part - cutting, gluing, and finishing! Please note: The various wood parts that we offer are appropriate for use with this dulcimer plan, but you may find that some dimensions don't match exactly.
